How much will a dollar-priced SaaS cost you in yen?
Japan pricing, annual billing, excluding tax. Of the 6 vendors, only 3 publish a yen price list on their own pages: HubSpot, Asana and Shopify. Semrush bills and displays in dollars and euros only, and Squarespace will take payment in yen yet we could not find a yen price list. On monday.com the Japanese-language page still showed dollar prices when we checked.
The 3 vendors that do price in yen are not doing the same thing. Divide the yen price by the US dollar price and the 3 diverge.
Divide yen by dollars and the yen price lists come apart
| Effective rate, yen ÷ dollars | What the conversion really is | How to read this | |
|---|---|---|---|
| HubSpot | Exactly 120.0 on every item | Fixed at 1 dollar = 120 yen | Written in yen, but priced in US dollars underneath |
| Shopify | 125.9 / 127.8 / 147.2, scattered | Independent pricing set for Japan | The vendor states explicitly that it is not converted from US dollar prices |
| Asana | 109.2 / 108.0 (156.1 for the add-on only) | Its own price, rounded in yen | The core plans line up closely; only the add-on is handled differently |
(Calculated in August 2026 from each vendor's own annual prices. HubSpot: 9 items, from ¥840 ÷ $7 to ¥360,000 ÷ $3,000. Shopify: ¥3,650 ÷ $29 / ¥10,100 ÷ $79 / ¥44,000 ÷ $299. Asana: ¥1,200 ÷ $10.99 / ¥2,700 ÷ $24.99 / ¥935 ÷ $5.99)
HubSpot's fixed 120 yen holds without exception. If the market rate is 1 dollar to 150 yen, the annual price of Marketing Professional would be $9,600 × 150 = ¥1,440,000, but it comes to ¥1,152,000 — ¥288,000 a year that the market rate would have added. Because it is fixed, though, the gap disappears the moment HubSpot revises it. Do not read yen pricing as a hedge against currency movements.
Shopify is the only one that gives the basis for its pricing in its official help.
Tax and payment methods are a separate question from yen pricing
| Tax on the displayed price | Official mention of Japanese consumption tax (JCT) | Invoice payment / bank transfer | Changing the contract currency | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HubSpot | Excluding tax (stated in the terms of service) | The contracting entity is "HubSpot Japan KK". We could not find JCT itself stated on the vendor's own pages | The terms set a payment deadline of 30 days. Whether a bank transfer can be chosen in Japan could not be confirmed. ACH is the US only | We could not find this stated on the vendor's own pages |
| Asana | Excluding tax (stated in the FAQ) | Yes (JCT is stated to apply) | The official help lists cards and PayPal only | We could not find this stated on the vendor's own pages |
| Shopify | We could not determine whether tax is included | We could not find this stated on the vendor's own pages | Card, Shopify Balance, PayPal, ACH (US) and SEPA (euro area). Japanese bank transfer is not covered | Possible in eligible countries. Applies from the next invoice |
| monday.com | Excluding tax (note beneath the prices) | The tax article makes no mention of Japan | Not available (cheques, money orders and purchase orders are not accepted). Enterprise is handled separately | Not possible after payment (8 currencies) |
| Semrush | Excluding tax (JCT is added to the total charged) | Yes (JCT 10%, no B2B exemption) | Wire transfer on annual billing only. Eligibility depends on the contract amount | We could not find this stated on the vendor's own pages |
| Squarespace | Excluding tax (stated in the help) | Yes (JCT applies, and exemption is stated to be unavailable) | Not available (cheques, bank transfers and purchase orders are not accepted) | Not possible after the first payment (26 currencies) |
All amounts are as of August 2026 and exclude tax. Sources are at the end of the article. JCT (Japanese Consumption Tax) is Japan's consumption tax, ACH is the US bank-account debit scheme and SEPA the euro-area one, and neither works with a Japanese bank account.
Start with the 2 columns on the right. Not one of the 6 vendors confirms on its own pages that it accepts a Japanese bank transfer. Since HubSpot, Shopify and monday.com say nothing about JCT, you will be asking at the quotation stage whether 10% goes on top. On a ¥1,000,000 contract a year that is a ¥100,000 difference. Shopify is the only one where we could not even determine whether the price includes tax: ¥4,380 rides on the ¥43,800 annual Basic plan, and ¥52,800 on the ¥528,000 annual Advanced plan.
The currency is fixed at monday.com on the first payment, and at Squarespace on the first payment or at the point a domain is moved to a trial site with no previous subscription. Both state officially that it cannot be changed afterwards. It is safer to choose on the basis that the currency is settled at the first payment.
If you stay in dollars, how much does the annual figure move?
Annual dollar contracts converted to yen (assumed rates, excluding tax, annual billing)
1 USD = 140 / 150 / 160 yen are all assumptions. The rate actually applied is the one the card issuer uses on the settlement date. Source: monday.com pricing page / Semrush pricing page (August 2026)
| Annual contract in US dollars | 140 yen | 150 yen | 160 yen | How to read this |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $1,140 (monday.com Pro, $19 × 5 seats × 12, annual billing) | ¥159,600 | ¥171,000 | ¥182,400 | A difference of ¥22,800. About 6 tenths of ¥36,480, the annual cost of 1 seat at 160 yen |
| $1,407.96 (Semrush SEO, $117.33 × 12, annual billing) | ¥197,114 | ¥211,194 | ¥225,274 | A difference of ¥28,160. 14.3% of the annual total = about 1.7 months of use |
The ratio is constant whatever the contract is worth: the gap between 140 yen and 160 yen is 160 ÷ 140 = 1.143 times. The first thing to check is the rate your own budget was built on. Built at 140 yen, it is +14.3% at 160 yen; built at 150 yen, +6.7%. Allow for that spread from the start and no mid-year correction is needed.
On top of this sits the card issuer's handling fee, generally in the region of 1.6 to 2.2%. It is a cost that never appears on the quotation, and Squarespace is the only vendor that mentions it officially.
Who should not buy
monday.com and Squarespace do not suit a company that wants to try 1 year in dollars first and switch to yen the following year. The currency is fixed at the first payment, and switching means creating the account again.
Semrush and Squarespace do not suit a company that wants to settle its treatment as a consumption-tax-exempt business. Both state explicitly that they do not accept exemption on the basis of a business registration number.
Asana does not suit a company whose approval process requires invoice payment and bank transfer. The official help lists cards and PayPal and nothing else.
Shopify does not suit a company that wants the annual figure fixed to the last 1 yen before signing. Whether tax is included cannot be determined, and a spread of a few thousand yen up to just over ¥50,000 a year remains.
If you are still deciding
These 6 products are not substitutes for one another. What follows assumes you have already settled what you are buying, and covers only the choice that comes after that.
Between monday.com and Asana, on currency grounds it is Asana. It has a yen price list, and its Japanese FAQ states both that prices exclude tax and that JCT applies. The gap in money is small: against monday.com Pro at 5 seats, $1,140 a year (about ¥171,000 at 150 yen), Asana Advanced for 5 people is ¥162,000 a year. The difference is about ¥9,000.
If you are weighing Shopify against Squarespace and want the quotation settled first, it is Squarespace. Weigh the range of payment methods and the independent yen pricing more heavily and it becomes Shopify.
Do not count on HubSpot's yen advantage as a fixed cost. Marketing Professional on annual billing is displayed at ¥96,000 a month, but what leaves the account at signing is ¥1,152,000 plus the mandatory onboarding of ¥360,000 = ¥1,512,000 in the first year (¥1,663,200 including JCT). Allow for the ¥288,000 a year that would come back if the fixed 120 yen were revised, and treat it as room for a price rise.
For Semrush the only question is whether you can accept dollar billing. If you can get approval with the annual $1,407.96 set at ¥225,274 on a 160-yen basis, go ahead; if you cannot, look for a different tool.
Whichever you choose, get 2 things in writing: whether the price excludes or includes tax, and whether a qualified invoice carrying a registration number will be issued. Without a qualified invoice, the consumption tax you have paid cannot be deducted from your own tax liability. On a ¥1,152,000 contract a year, ¥115,200 stays as a cost you cannot recover.

The exchange rates (140 yen / 150 yen / 160 yen) are all assumptions, not official figures. The amount actually billed is set by the rate the card issuer applies on the settlement date. Whether the Japanese Shopify pricing page shows prices including or excluding tax, whether the 6 vendors issue a qualified invoice carrying a registration number, whether HubSpot, Asana and Semrush allow the billing currency to be chosen and changed, and which currency monday.com displays when accessed from Japan: we could not find any of these stated on the vendors' own pages. Semrush prices are shown differently on the pricing page and in the knowledge base. Terms change, so please check each vendor's official pages before you sign.
Shopify
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $1,140(monday.com Pro $19×5
| $1,407.96(Semrush SEO $117.33×12
